Basically, it’s like a glass room with windows. Many sunbeams come in, then heat bounces out. Some gases in the atmosphere trap this heat inside, preventing it from escape. That acts as a natural blanket, keeping Earth warm. This is good to a point, but now we have too much. Industrial activities, especially burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas), release more greenhouse gases (GHG) into the air. The main culprits are carbon dioxide (CO₂ or CO2), etc. These emissions builds up, making the blanket thicker, causing global warming. The amount of extra heat gets higher, leading to a rising global temperature. We burn fuels to power our lives. Global Warming’s Impact Global warming means our planet gets hotter. That’s a serious problem. This leads to climate change with many new weather patterns. We see sea levels rising as ice at the poles and other areas melts. Floods can happen in some places, and deserts are forming near others. Many types of plants and animals face this change. Even our food sources could come under threat. Solutions for a Cleaner Future To tackle this problem, countries need to cut emissions. The Kyoto Protocol was an agreement many countries signed to lower GHG levels. We can do this by using renewable energy like wind and solar power. Fuel-efficient cars and buses help, and we can also ride a bike for shorter distances. Planting trees helps, as they use CO2 for photosynthesis. Recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum cans to reduce waste. Turning off lights and using less energy at home are small things that make a difference. Lets keep our planet cleaner. The Ozone Layer: Earth’s Natural Sunscreen About 9-31 kilometers (km) above Earth’s surface, or around 9-19 miles, there’s a layer called the ozone layer. This invisible filter is made of ozone molecules (O₃). It acts as our planet’s sunscreen, protecting us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. Without its filtering power, too many UV rays would reach the surface, causing skin cancer, sunburns, and other diseases. The Ozone Hole In the 1970s, scientists noticed something serious. The ozone layer was getting thinner, especially over the north and south poles. They found a “hole” where it was very thin. The main culprits were chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). These gases, used in aerosol spray cans, refrigerators, and air conditioners, leaked into the atmosphere. Once there, UV radiation breaks them apart, releasing chlorine atoms. A single chlorine atom can destroy many ozone molecules, breaking O₃ down into regular oxygen (O₂). This destroying process was making the layer very thin. The sunlight reaching our planet was not only warming it, but also making this hole bigger. A Global Effort Recognizing the problem, countries started to work together. An international agreement banned the production and use of CFCs. Since then, the ozone layer has been recovering. It’s not back to its original stable state yet, but it’s getting better. We still need to keep monitoring it. This shows what we can do if we all pull together. A Call to Action While the ozone layer is recovering, global warming is still a leading problem. We can’t just leave this for someone else.We need to act now. Every day, our choices matter. Think about your energy use, your travel, your waste.  Recycle more, drive fewer cars, choose clean power. It’s a good bet that if we all do our part, we’ll see a much better future for all life on our planet. Let’s take action to protect Earth from these types of threats. The public deserves to know this news.  An image of a healthy planet is what we promise. We’ll talk more about solutions with many words like these. Super important things to do now! Does your car use much fuel? Consider a more efficient one. Don’t waste anything else. Snips of information like this can make a difference. Acs also helps spread this message.
